Cabo Getaway

My Life, Travel

the blog:

Chris and I took our Anniversary Trip to Cabo to celebrate 11 years of marriage. We were supposed to go somewhere last year but with Covid we had to cancel. We had a friend offer to let us stay at their private residence so we couldn’t turn it down.

Here’s a recap of our trip and some recommendations for traveling to Cabo!

The first thing you need to know is that there are 2 Cabos. Cabo San Lucas is downtown and filled with fun bars and resorts. Where we stayed is called San Jose del Cabo which is a residential area of Cabo. It’s about 45 minutes from downtown Cabo San Lucas and filled with golf courses and beautiful homes and resorts. If you are looking for a quiet getaway then I highly recommend this area. If you are more into the nightlife and partying then Cabo San Lucas would be a better fit.

Traveling into Cabo:

Here’s a few things you need to know when traveling into Cabo. With Covid, they currently do require masks on the flights and at airports but don’t require a negative test to enter the country. Only a negative test upon coming back so you will need to coordinate a test in Cabo 72 hours before you fly back. If you are staying at a resort then you can get with them on the options they have for this. If you are booking an airbnb then you should be able to ask the house manager how to do this. We have had a doctor come to our house both times to test us a few days prior to coming back to the USA. It’s super convenient. I just recommend doing it at least 24 hours prior so you have time to get your results and the form you need to fly home.

Once you land in Cabo, you turn in the forms that you filled out in customs and get through to baggage claim. Once you go through baggage then they will scan your bags. From here, you will go through another door filled with people that will try to bombard you with booking a taxi or tours. Just keep walking and say no thank you. They are just soliciting and you don’t need to stop. If you do need a taxi then you can go all the way outside and find a legit one there. The people in this room seem sketchy so just don’t stop 🙂

Where we stayed

We were so lucky to have a friend let us stay at their private residence during our trip. It was so great and in a gated neighborhood. Here it the LINK. It was near the Shoppes at Pamilla and a super nice area that I love staying around.

How We Got Around

One question I got the most while traveling to Mexico was how we got around. We weren’t sure about ubers or taxis so found Pedro Transportation Service HERE and used them the entire time for our travels. They are rated the #1 transportation company in Cabo and they were very polite and professional. They had SUV vehicles that would pick us up at the scheduled times that we worked out with them. I would highly recommend using this travel company if you go to Cabo.

The Rooftop at the Cape

Our first dinner out we went to the Rooftop which is a restaurant at the top of the Cape resort. The views were absolutely stunning. We made our reservation for 7 pm so we could enjoy the sunset. They had live music playing and the vibe was great for adults. The taquitos and churros were my 2 favorite things this night.

Horseback Riding

We wanted to do something different than our typical beach vacation so I looked up options for horseback riding on the beach and hiking. We found this ranch in northern Cabo that offered Atv rides, horseback riding, hiking and more. It was called Rancho Carisuva and we booked it through this site HERE! The ticket included transportation to and from the ranch which was nice. Chris had never been horseback riding so it was a whole new experience for him. We had a ranch dog follow up the entire time and saw the mexican desert meet the sandy shores. We even encountered wild horses. It was something that I recommend if you love being out in nature.

Authentic Mexican Jacket came from the shop there. You can find Chris’ jacket Here and mine Here

Cocina Del Mar

Conina Del Mar was another wonderful restaurant right on the water in Cabo. The vibe was much more upscale and fancy compared to the other restaurants we went to. We started with the Shell Fish starter which included Clams, Oysters and Scallops. For our main course, I had the seabass and Chris had the flank steak.

Toro Latin Kitchen

Our final dinner was at a Latin Kitchen called Toro linked HERE. This one didn’t have an Ocean View but was still so interesting and the food was probably my favorite out of the whole trip. We started out with Oysters and Tuna Tartare. Then I got the Surf and Turf for my meal and Chris got a Chimichurri Flap Steak. It was all so flavorful and tasty. They surprised us with an anniversary desert. I also got Churros to go since it was my last night and I was craving another Churro 😉

Massage Company

One more thing we did that I would recommend is booking a massage right to your airbnb. We had Thania Sarmiento Home Spa come to the house on our anniversary and gave us a full massage. The cost was only $70 in USD and it was by far the best massage I have ever gotten. The ladies were super sweet and had years of experience. Here is the LINK to check them out.

Overall, it was an amazing Anniversary trip. Cabo is one of my most favorite places in the entire world.
