What better way to celebrate Memorial Day than with a sweet, simple tasty treat that is always a hit with the kids! Few ingredients are needed, and the cleanup takes just a couple of minutes. These Patriotic Rice Krispy Treats are the perfect addition to your Memorial Day gathering and are bound to be a hit amongst everyone!
Ingredients Used:
6 cups Rice Krispy cereal
6 tbsp salted butter
16 oz bag of mini marshmallows
3 cups candy melts (red, white and/or blue)
sprinkles (red, white and/or blue)
To make this delicious treat, follow these simple steps:
1: I personally like to make the rice krispy treats from scratch. However, you can use the prepackaged ones if you prefer or are in a rush for time. To make from scratch, you want to first spray a baking dish with nonstick cooking spray and set aside. Next you want to melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
2: Once the butter has completely melted, add in the mini marshmallows making sure to stir frequently. You want the marshmallows to be completely melted and mixed in with the butter creating a smooth consistency.
3: Remove the marshmallow mixture from the heat and stir in all of the rice krispies. Make sure to continuously stir until all the rice krispies have been coated with the marshmallow mixture. Pour the mixture into your baking dish making sure to spread it out evenly within the dish. Now let your treat sit for about an hour (you can leave it uncovered or cover with plastic wrap).
4: Once the rice kripsy treats have set, cut them into even pieces and insert a popsicle stick into the end. This allows easier dipping for any little assistants wanting to help decorate! Melt your chocolate melts, and quickly start dipping the end of the rice krispies into the different colors. Add the sprinkles and set aside!
5: After the chocolate has hardened, you are ready to serve your patriotic rice krispy treats!
Reese loved making this sweet dessert and couldn’t wait to show Chris just how great of a job she did! Even with her being 2 years old, it was simple enough for her to jump right in and help with decorating all the treats. Have fun baking friends!
